Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to enhance photo images ready for output. This process could be digital or using a wet darkroom.
It applies to individuals who use techniques to enhance and resolve the concept for the image. They may work in photo centres, specialised photo processing laboratories or photography studios.
No licensing, legislative or certification conditions apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Evidence of Performance
Evidence of the ability to:
plans, selects and uses processes and outputting options to suit the job requirements and in accordance with workplace procedures.
produce a body of images that demonstrates command of enhancement and manipulation techniques
clean work areas and check and store equipment according to workplace requirements.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Evidence of Knowledge
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
outline the features of prints or files that can be enhanced or manipulated
describe common techniques for enhancing and manipulating images
describe a range of output equipment and materials that can be used in analog, digital or other print technologies
outline a range of output options
summarise work health and safety procedures for using darkroom equipment and materials and/ or using screens and keyboards for extended periods of time
outline intellectual property and other legislation relevant to image enhancement, manipulation and output.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
photo imaging materials, tools and equipment.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
